A sawcut line is established one foot from the existing edge of pavement, with an additional three to five foot width designated for removal and installation of a new pavement section. The existing paving is ground down by a minimum of one inch to create a notch that matches the new paving depth and ensures a smooth flush transition. Existing and proposed base rock courses support the respective asphalt layers as specified on the plan.
