A precast concrete area inlet assembly is designed for AASHTO HS-20 loading conditions. The unit consists of a precast base box featuring knockouts for pipe connections, a variable-height precast riser, and a precast concrete lid with lifting inserts. A grade ring sits atop the lid to support a cast-iron ring and grate assembly. Pipe connections are specified to be watertight and grouted smooth on both sides of the box opening. Box dimensions must provide clearance matching the largest outside diameter of the connecting pipe plus twelve inches, with a minimum size of two feet by two feet or three feet by three feet depending on the total depth.
