A precast or cast-in-place concrete catch basin and junction box assembly is set within an asphalt paving section. The top of the structure features a concrete collar surrounding a 27-1/4 inch by 25 inch frame constructed from 1/4 inch by 2-1/2 inch side bars with 1/4 inch by 1/2 inch angle iron ends. A 26-1/4 inch by 23-15/16 inch grate or a 26-1/4 inch by 24 inch cast iron or steel cover rated for H-20 highway loading is seated within the frame. The grate consists of cross bars fabricated from 3/16 inch by 1-1/4 inch A-36 steel bars and end plates from 3/16 inch by 2 inch A-36 steel bars, with 5/16 inch diameter rods hot press fitted at 4 inches on center. The concrete box walls and base are reinforced with number 4 reinforcing bars spaced at 12 inches on center, supplemented by four anchor elements at the upper perimeter. The adjacent asphalt pavement bears against a 1/4 inch lip on the frame and sits over a variable depth sub-base with a concrete collar extending outward.
