A concrete pavement transition panel joins a jointed plain concrete pavement approach slab to an existing or new hot mix asphalt pavement. The assembly features a variable-depth concrete transition slab reinforced with number 5 reinforcing bars spaced at one foot each way and two inches of typical concrete clearance. Dowel bars are positioned at the centerline transverse construction joint as indicated in the revised standard plans. The hot mix asphalt base provides a four-inch minimum thickness below the asphalt surfacing, transitioning directly into the reinforced concrete slab over a twelve-foot length with an additional twelve-foot approach slab section.
