An eight or twelve inch compost sock is anchored by two-inch by two-inch wooden stakes spaced every five feet on center along the work area to protect adjacent ground from runoff flow. Excess wrap material is drawn in and tied off at each stake, with end returns angled at thirty degrees for ten feet to prevent flow around the barrier. The profile section shows the compost sock embedded two inches into the ground with a 12-inch minimum stake embedment and three to four inches of projection above the sock. Sediment must be removed from the upslope side when accumulation reaches half the effective height of the sock.
