A standard heavy-duty or parking lot asphalt paving section is built upon a properly prepared subgrade. The surface layer consists of a three-inch thick asphalt paving course. Below the asphalt lies an eight-inch thick base course composed of aggregate material. The entire assembly rests upon a compacted and properly prepared subgrade. A general note directs the contractor to see the geotechnical report for the project.
