Monolithic concrete sidewalk construction requires a four-inch thickness generally, increasing to eight inches at driveways and commercial areas. Score lines are placed at intervals equal to one times the width of the sidewalk, measuring thirty percent of the sidewalk depth. Premolded bituminous expansion joint filler is used at intersections with perpendicular sidewalks or driveways and at intervals no greater than forty feet. A minimum four-inch untreated base course is compacted to ninety-six percent of the maximum dry density under the sidewalk. Edges are finished with a one-half inch radius edging tool, and the finished surface slopes two percent towards the street.
