The connection and transition between proposed and existing asphalt pavement sections is formed by a saw cut of two inches minimum depth made in the existing asphalt pavement, with the existing material and base course removed to accommodate the new pavement layers. A tack coat is applied to the interface between the hot mix asphalt and existing surfaces to ensure proper bonding. The assembly is founded on a base course and a twelve-inch compacted subgrade below.
