Curb inlet sediment barriers are installed on gently sloping streets to allow water to pond and sediment to separate from runoff. Gravel-filled sandbags made of burlap or woven geotextile fabric are stacked tightly around the catch basin, leaving one sandbag gap in the top row to provide a spillway overflow. The top of the spillway must be lower than the top of the curb to direct excess water properly. Barriers require inspection and sediment removal after each storm event, with accumulated gravel and sediment removed from the traveled way immediately.
