Continuity plates and stiffener plates are welded to a wide-flange steel member web with specific thickness requirements and weld holdbacks. Continuity plate thickness is sized to the beam flange thickness plus one-eighth inch minimum, with fillet weld size specified as five-eighths of the continuity plate thickness on three sides. Fillet welds maintain a one-and-a-half-inch minimum holdback from the k-areas, with weld placement kept entirely away from the column k-areas.
