This heavy duty cement concrete pavement expansion joint detail features sixteen-inch by one-half-inch diameter smooth dowel bars spaced at eighteen inches on center across a one-half-inch joint opening. One side of the dowel bar is coated to prevent bond with the concrete. A preformed joint filler is positioned vertically within the joint, terminating below the finish grade with a sealant joint above. The concrete slabs rest on prepared subgrade and subbase layers. A reference callout points to detail B4/C3.18 at the joint top.
