An underground utility pipe is installed within a compacted trench with specified bedding and backfill materials. The pipe rests on a bedding layer over compacted subgrade, with backfill compacted to ninety-five percent relative compaction up to the subgrade. A warning tape is placed eight to twelve inches above the pipe within the backfill material. The upper trench section is finished with an aggregate base course and asphalt concrete surface matching street grade, complying with local department of public works excavation and restoration regulations.
