Sediment control wattles made from rice, coconut, or excelsior are placed along slope contours for erosion and runoff management. The cylindrical wattles are secured using vertical wood stakes driven into the ground at a typical staking spacing of four feet on center. End joints between adjacent wattles are staggered along the slope alignment. Each wattle is partially entrenched into the soil profile to prevent undercutting by surface water flow.
