A transition joint between portland cement concrete and asphalt pavement incorporates a field molded sealant. The joint reservoir features a sawed face on both the concrete and asphalt sides with a width between one-half inch minimum and five-eighths inch maximum. A one-half inch round back-up material rod sits inside the reservoir below a poured sealant depth ranging from one to one and a half times the joint width with a one-quarter inch minimum depth. A vertical offset of one-eighth inch plus or minus one-sixteenth inch is maintained between the pavement surfaces. The sawcut depth of the joint reservoir must be coordinated with the sealant manufacturer's recommendations.
