An area drain catch basin is fitted with a U-shaped woven fabric insert filter sack measuring forty-eight inches by thirty-six inches with a twenty-four inch depth. The filter fabric is pinched between the cast iron grate and the grout frame typically found at the basin opening. A retrieval strap is attached to facilitate removal and maintenance of the trapped sediment area drain. Installation requires cleaning dirt and debris from the grate ledge and cutting excess fabric to leave three to five inches around the outside if reusable. Sediment accumulation is monitored by probing with a yardstick and emptying when approximately half full.
