A standard exterior concrete sidewalk section features a 4-inch concrete slab with a minimum compressive strength of 3,000 psi and a maximum slump of 3.5 inches. The slab receives a broom finish and has tooled edges on each side, with control joints spaced at 5 feet on center maximum and expansion joints every fourth joint. The concrete rests on a 2-inch minimum depth of 3/4-inch minus aggregate over a compacted subgrade and aggregate compacted to 95% of maximum dry density at a minimum thickness of 3 inches. The finished sidewalk maintains a 2% maximum cross slope and extends 1 inch minimum above the surrounding grade.
