A fire hydrant connects to a six-inch ductile iron pipe supplied by a main connection tee. The assembly incorporates a six-inch cast iron gate valve accessed via a standard valve box and lid. The hydrant rests on an eighteen by eighteen by six or four-inch thick concrete pad surrounded by one cubic yard of one-and-one-half-inch plus gravel. A tee thrust block is required at the elbow fitting. The top of the flange sits four inches above the top of the curb, with a concrete collar at grade measuring twenty-four square inches and a minimum of five inches thick.
