An abandoned pipe is plugged by filling the interior with concrete extending a minimum of one foot into the pipe, backed by packing material to contain the concrete mix during placement. The concrete plug extends six inches past the end of the pipe into the surrounding medium, with three inches of clearance maintained around the pipe diameter. The pipe is filled with concrete to a depth of at least one foot.
