Concrete pavers are set over a three-quarter inch latex mortar setting bed with latex mortar joints and a paver bond coat. The setting bed rests on a minimum four-inch thick concrete slab reinforced with number four bars at sixteen inches on center each way. A full-depth expansion joint featuring a one-half inch diameter smooth dowel, eighteen inches long, divides the assembly. Below the concrete slab lies a minimum four-inch thick Class II aggregate base compacted to ninety-five percent per ASTM D1557. The entire assembly bears on a compacted subgrade compacted to ninety-five percent per ASTM D1557 at a minimum thickness of twelve inches.
