Gravel bags are arranged across streets and around drainage inlets to control stormwater runoff and sediment transport on construction sites. The first row of gravel bags is embedded half depth into the ground, with subsequent courses stacked two to three bags high depending on location and low points. Bags overlap onto curbs and feature gaps between individual units to act as spillways for controlled overflow. A gravel bag row spacing table specifies required intervals based on street grades ranging from less than two percent up to ten percent.
