A standard temporary silt fence assembly features a geotextile filter fabric keyed into a 4-inch by 4-inch trench with compacted backfill and an adjacent swale. The filter fabric embeds a minimum of 8 inches into the ground and extends to a height of 3.0 feet above grade, supported by steel T or U type posts or 2-inch by 2-inch hardwood posts spaced at a maximum of 10.0 feet. Posts are 54 inches minimum in length and driven at least 12 inches into the existing ground. Approved filter fabric materials include Mirafi 140N, Dupont Typar 3341, or an approved equal.
