A cold-formed steel metal deflection track fastens below a glulam timber beam in a fire-rated partition head connection. The metal stud wall is built with acoustical insulation and gypsum board layers sized per the floor plans, with an additional layer of gypsum board on each side to achieve a two-hour fire rating. A four-inch deep mineral wool insulation piece is compressed twenty-five percent between the studs at the top of the wall. Flexible firestop sealant runs the full depth of the gypsum board on both sides of the partition. A maximum one-half inch deflection gap is maintained beneath the structural glulam beam.
