A wide-flange W-beam bears directly over a hollow structural section HSS column with centerlines aligned. A half-inch plate welded with a three-sixteenths inch fillet weld secures the connection using four three-quarter inch diameter bolts. Three-eighths inch stiffener plates are welded to each side of the beam web with three-sixteenths inch fillet welds. Incoming beam details are sized per plan.
