A wide-flange beam connects to both sides of a supporting wide-flange beam web using shear plates and bolts. The supported beams require flange coping with a maximum dimension of three inches and a three-quarter-inch maximum clearance to the support. Shear plates are sized per the engineering table and welded to the supporting web. Bolts secure the supported beam webs to the shear plates with typical spacings of one and one-half inches and three inches. Similar connections are used for sloped framing conditions, and the shear plate extends full depth or includes a beam brace where designated on plans.
