An interior rated partition wall meets an exterior curtain wall mullion adjacent to a structural steel column. Two layers of 5/8-inch Type X gypsum board clad three sides of the mullion with J channels at the brake shape. The partition end terminates with two layers of 5/8-inch Type X gypsum board separated from the glazing system by backer rod and fire sealant. Brake metal closures finish each side to match the existing exterior glazing system, and the partition remains unfastened to the window system.
