Stabilized decomposed granite paving sits over a compacted base and compacted subgrade, restrained on one side by a steel header. The steel header extends vertically down past the paving section into the subgrade, separating the paving from the finish grade of planting soil. An adjacent pavement finish surface aligns with the top of the stabilized decomposed granite paving, bearing on its own compacted base layer. Sloped compacted subgrade transitions support the differing base thicknesses beneath the paving and adjacent surfaces.
