An expansion joint in a concrete walk features a one-eighth-inch joint width filled with expansion joint filler, backed by a backer rod, and topped with sealant. A control joint in the concrete walk is formed by a sawcut extending to one-fourth the depth of the slab and filled with sealant. The expansion joint is spaced at twenty feet on center maximum and as shown on enlarged site plans, while the control joint is spaced at five feet on center maximum.
