An elevator portal assembly features continuous wood blocks fabricated from four species of wood with no visible joints, secured over a plywood backing with exposed faces laminated to match the wood. A blackened metal trim piece measuring 3 1/2 inches frames the upper edge of the assembly. The backing is anchored above a steel framing member. Additional wall construction includes steel studs with batt insulation and drywall layers.
