A continuous wide-flange beam bears onto a hollow structural section column using L8x4x1/2 angles placed on each side of the column. The connection utilizes two three-quarter inch diameter A325 bolts at the bottom of one and a half inch vertical short slot holes on each side of the hollow structural section column. Three-eighths inch stiffener plates are welded to both sides of the beam web with three-sixteenths inch fillet welds on three sides. A one-quarter inch shim space and a one inch clearance space are maintained at the bearing interface. Five-sixteenths inch fillet welds secure the seat angles typically, leaving a half inch minimum typical gap.
