A typical stair tread and riser assembly is formed from one-eighth-inch bent steel plate with one-eighth-inch radius bends. Three-quarter-inch plywood is mechanically fastened to the steel plate, and three-quarter-inch hardwood flooring is fully adhered to the plywood. The assembly is supported by steel angles welded to a two-inch steel stringer on each side of the stair. Three-eighth-inch carriage bolts secure the riser plate assembly in three locations per riser.
