A concrete walk construction incorporates an expansion joint and a control joint. The expansion joint consists of a half-inch felt expansion joint material capped with half-inch sealant on top, featuring tooled quarter-inch rounded edges and number five smooth dowels twenty-four inches long spaced at twenty-four inches on center wrapped with a bond breaker on one side. The concrete walk is reinforced with six-by-six ten-by-ten welded wire mesh, which is discontinued at the expansion joint. A control joint features a quarter-inch deep saw cut with a one-eighth-inch width. The concrete slab rests on a ninety-percent compacted subgrade with a one-and-a-half-inch leveling bed or base course as indicated. Notes specify referencing soils reports for below-slab preparation, placing expansion joints at twelve-foot maximum centers each way, and installing control joints at ninety-degree angles to each other.
