A one and one-half inch diameter steel pipe handrail and guardrail assembly incorporates welded joints ground smooth throughout. The top guardrail maintains a minimum height of three feet six inches, while the graspable handrail is positioned between thirty-four and thirty-eight inches above the walking surface. Handrail extensions at the top and bottom run parallel to the direction of travel, with extension dimensions measured prior to the handrail return.
