This double-stud wall assembly consists of two independent metal stud rows separated by a one-inch minimum clear space. Each side is finished with one layer of gypsum board over acoustical insulation placed within the stud cavities. Lateral stud bracing is provided as required without rigid cross-bracing between the parallel stud rows to maintain acoustic separation. The overall wall thickness varies per plan, achieving a sound transmission class rating between fifty and fifty-four.
