A structural steel wide-flange beam encased in sprayed fire-resistive material supports a composite concrete floor slab above. Fire-proofing at the beam requires a one-hour beam assembly conforming to UL 263 No. D759, No. D796, or No. N759, or a two-hour beam assembly conforming to UL 263 No. D796 or No. N759. Insulation fills the spaces adjacent to the beam web beneath the slab.
