A square hollow structural section column is encased in a twelve-inch by twelve-inch concrete profile. Four vertical reinforcing bars are placed in the corners with lateral ties enclosing them. Four headed studs are welded to the faces of the hollow structural section column and extend outward into the surrounding concrete. A clear cover dimension of three inches is maintained from the face of the concrete to the internal steel elements.
