An isolated acoustic ceiling is suspended below a structural floor or roof assembly with a typical one-foot vertical clearance. The upper barrier consists of two layers of gypsum board backed by four inches of insulation and supported by six-inch metal studs typically unless noted otherwise. Below this barrier, typical hanger wires suspend an acoustic ceiling tile grid system. All penetrations through the gypsum board layer must be sealed with specified sealant and joint compound. The ceiling remains strictly isolated without any structural support or bracing connected to the overhead structure.
