This assembly features a steel column base plate resting on a pile cap, with a slab-on-grade surrounding the column. The underslab vapor barrier is extended onto the pile cap by one-half to one inch and secured with perimeter tape. A blockout around the column base is filled with concrete only after the completion of the floors and roof construction above, as specified in the structural drawings. The pile cap itself is sized and reinforced per structural requirements.
