Typical steel backing plate installations within metal stud partition framing. A sixteen gauge steel plate spans across multiple studs with a minimum of three stud coverage, providing structural support for grab bars, corridor railings, and toilet partitions. A four-inch twenty gauge track is notched around and fastened flush to the studs using two number ten sheet metal screws per stud. Backing plates are welded or self-tapped directly to the metal studs set at standard spacing unless noted otherwise.
