The gypsum board partition terminates at the underside of a fireproofed steel beam, with the gypsum panels cut to follow the profile of the beam fireproofing. A gap of one-quarter inch minimum to three-eighths inch maximum is maintained between the gypsum and the fireproofing. Continuous acoustical sealant is applied to both sides of the partition at the beam interface, matching the sealant specified for the partition head system. The steel beam supports a composite floor deck or steel roof deck as indicated in the structural drawings, and the internal partition framing is shown dashed.
