Adjacent metal coping sections are separated by a one-quarter-inch gap and joined over a twelve-inch backup plate that is screwed into place before the coping is installed. Both the coping and backup plate are set in mastic, with continuous cleats fastening the coping to the parapet on both sides. A six-inch cover plate sealed with plane sealant at the seams is formed to match the exact profile of the coping.
