A roof expansion joint assembly spans between two supporting steel beams carrying a one-and-a-half-inch metal roof deck topped with rigid insulation and single-ply membrane roofing. The three-inch joint opening contains a continuous neoprene closure across the gap and is filled with two inches of fiberglass insulation below. Two-by-four pressure-treated wood nailers flank the opening and anchor the membrane assembly. A three-inch foam rod sized one-and-a-half times larger than the expansion joint sits inside the gap, with the roofing membrane extending up and over the foam rod to maintain weather tightness.
