A new concrete masonry unit infill wall constructed below an existing masonry wall with a sealant joint at the interface. The infill assembly consists of a new concrete masonry unit wall reinforced with vertical steel bars, framed with seven-eighths inch hat channels on each side, and finished with one layer of five-eighths inch Type X gypsum wall board on each side that is painted when inside a unit. The new concrete masonry unit infill wall spans vertically beneath the existing masonry wall opening.
