This permanent pavement trench detail shows a utility cut restoration perpendicular to the edge of the existing pavement structure. The repair consists of a 2-inch hot mix asphalt surface course placed in two equal courses over a 5-inch hot mix asphalt base course. The lower trench fill comprises a 12-inch densely graded crushed stone base, increased to 20 inches in rock cuts. All vertical edges of the remaining existing pavement are painted with a light coat of asphalt emulsion typical, finished with a bituminous joint seal at the surface interface.
