A concrete sidewalk assembly features a half-inch expansion joint and a control joint. The expansion joint consists of a half-inch felt filler topped with sealant and tooled quarter-inch radius edges, supported by number five smooth dowels at twenty-four inches on center, with one side wrapped in a bond breaker. Six-by-six number ten gauge welded wire mesh reinforcement is discontinued at the expansion joint. A control joint is formed by a quarter-depth saw cut with one-eighth-inch width. The slab rests on ninety percent compacted subgrade with a one-and-a-half-inch base layer.
