This one-hour fire-rated shaftwall head detail terminates a cold-formed steel stud partition against an overhead cross-laminated timber deck. A shaftwall deep leg metal deflection track matches the gauge of the wall studs and accommodates vertical movement. Four pounds per cubic foot density mineral wool insulation is compressed fifty percent inside the head track cavity, supplemented by flexible firestop sealant applied to the full depth of the gypsum board on both sides. Gypsum board is attached exclusively to the metal studs and left unfastened to the deflection track to allow proper deflection. The shaft side remains inaccessible while the interior side is accessible, with a maximum one-half inch joint referenced to structural expansion joint details.
