A wide-flange steel column (W10X68) is wrapped with gypsum board to provide a one-hour fire rating per OSSC 2010 Table 720.1(1) items 1. One-and-five-eighths-inch metal furring channels are positioned at the flange ends to align the surrounding wall assembly with the column. Concrete is placed around the column up to eight feet with three inches of typical coverage.
