A one-quarter-inch-wide expansion joint runs the full depth of a five-inch minimum cast-in-place architectural concrete finish slab with reinforcing. A compressible filler extends down the joint depth, topped with backer rod and sealant colored to match the concrete. Dowels span across the joint between adjacent slab pours. Below the finish slab, waterproofing, a drainage board, and geotextile fabric protect the underlying cast-in-place concrete slab sloped to drain.
