A 1-1/2 inch diameter painted steel pipe handrail mounts to a partition wall using steel wall brackets spaced at 4 feet on center maximum. A 14-gauge by 6-inch metal strap provides backing at bracket locations within the partition assembly. Steel fasteners secure the brackets to the wall. The handrail positions 3 feet above the nosing of stair treads, with extensions required at the top and base of the stair.
