A DB beam connects to the web of a W-beam supporting member using a vertical shear plate fastened with an eight-bolt vertical row. A three-eighths inch stiffener plate is welded between the flanges of the supporting W-beam aligned with the connection. Weld sizes for the connection are referenced to sheet S5.31 detail two, while the number of bolts and shear plate thickness are determined per the structural schedule. The top flange of the DB beam is coped to clear the supporting beam flange.
