An HSS 6x6x1/4 hollow structural section column extends down through a finish slab and into a 24-inch square or diameter concrete footing. The base of the steel tube is anchored within the concrete by four 1/2-inch diameter welded studs extending outward from the sides of the tube. The bottom of the footing is placed three inches below the base of the embedded column. A closure plate is welded to the top of the hollow structural section column.
